While the tweaked looks, new optional transmission, and engine upgrades were front-row-center in the press release for the 2018 Ford Mustang GT in January, there was more. With its arrival in dealerships approaching, we’ve learned just how potent the V8 engine will be, and some of the impressive add-ons that lower exhaust noise and enable a sub-four second sprint to sixty miles-per hour.

First, the numbers. Ford has bumped the output of the Coyote V8 to 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Manual fans will love the standard six-speed unit, but for the fastest sprint and most sophisticated ride, a combination of the GT Performance Package and optional ten-speed automatic transmission will do the trick. The former add-on boasts Drag Strip mode, which offers peak engine output throughout the rev range, and also equips the GT with magnetic dampers similar to the GT350. There’s also the Active Valve Performance Exhaust with a “quiet” feature. See how it works in the video above.
