The Ford C-Max: A Dual Engine Hybrid

The Ford C-Max Hybrid features both an electric engine and a 2.0-Liter gas engine. The C-Max is one of many small hybrid vehicles on the road today. However, the C-Max rates at the top of the small hybrid class for horsepower. The C-Max holds that distinction because of the unique power architecture used by Ford.

The electric engine provides enough power to achieve speeds up to 85-mph. The 2.0-Liter Atkinson 4-cylinder engine rates as one of the top performing gas engines available on the market. Ford designed the two engines to work in tandem. When pulling together, the two engines generate 188-horsepower while delivering 129 lb-ft. of torque that can deliver speeds up to 115-mph. The C-Max comes in two trims—the SE and the Titanium—with the same powertrain in both.
